Groypers are literally named after a meme. Memes aren't known for their staying power. They are the ultimate example of a transitory idea. I suspect groypers will be too, as will Fuentes. If anything, I suspect the wider exposure will work to his disadvantage.

"Groyperism" is more of a pejorative used by Leftists who think they are diametrically opposed without consideration of the actual position. IOW lazy people.

I had a friend recently who made the comment that Fuentes was paid opposition, but wasn't sure what to make of it. Do you have any thoughts in that direction?

Max Remington's avatar

I've heard that many times before. Personally, I find it interesting that the Right wants Fuentes to be a real phenomenon but at the same time propagate the narrative that he's paid opposition. That suggests to me they realize that Fuentes is a liability for the Right, but they also don't want to just hand the Left an easy win. The same thing goes for groups like Patriot Front. We shouldn't gatekeep against them, but they're also all "feds."

That is a good an interesting point; thank you for taking the time to respond.

It’s a weird response that I frankly don’t know what to do with when it happens; it’s either real or it’s not. And not everything is a cabal-led conspiracy either. Thank you.

I enjoy engaging with readers. It's the least I can do in exchange for your readership.

Someone I won't name (because he's a turd and I don't want to give him any more followers) once explained Patriot Front isn't a fed op, though feds have likely infiltrated the organization the same way they've infiltrated all other far-right groups. He said Patriot Front is full of everyday men, many whom you'd refer to as reputable. Somehow, they've come to conclude that fascism is not only the way to go, but that it can work in America.

What I remember most about his testimony is that one of the men he met (he was being recruited) was an Army officer and had a picture of Francisco Franco in his wallet. These guys think of themselves as supreme Americans, yet it's a foreign dictator they idolize? Not even George Washington? That's what really irks me about these people.

I'm a Boomer who finds the outrage in Groypers to be sane and encouraging. What I do not find sane and encouraging is what seems to be a fever of Jew hatred among them. Why isn't their rage targeted at whom it should be: secularists, feminists, sex creeps, advocates of the mad idea that a person can alter XX chromosomes to XY or XY chromosomes to XX. ( There are no such people, of course, which makes the Establishment insistence that a person can be trans all the more mad hatterish. )

Why is it that in the last five years the ceiling light has been turned on and there they go scurrying, the Nazis down the block, or maybe the Nazi you're putting through college? Where have they all come from? Is it more illusory, driven by the fact that if you go to places online where such moral delinquents congregate, you're going to think there are a lot more of them than there actually are?

The viciousness toward Israel is hard to miss. If Jews are instinctively Zionists, it seems to me that anti Zionists are really Jew haters who are still wearing protective coloration. I was born seven years after World War II ended, have lived into a time of resurgent and unashamed anti Semitism which I couldn't have imagined I'd live to see, and am shaken by it. Ideas do have consequences. It's time for J.D. Vance to make his equivalent of Clinton's Sister Souljah speech in 1992.

I think the Fuentes phenomenon is quite simple: people see his videos online, they go, "Hey, he made a great point" and that's the end of it. The Left obviously makes the fact that his videos get views a sign of how fascism is nigh, while the Right takes it as a sign that there's this massive "silent majority" of BASED far-right public out there somewhere.

Both are wrong.

I saw a pro Fuentes comment the other day which made me laugh. I can't remember the entirety of it, but it began this way, "As Nick makes his historic run..."

As if Fuentes were Robert F Kennedy in mid March, 1968, or Reagan having rolled through the primaries in 1980.

I can't remember the verse, though I know it's Old Testamental, a reference to the dregs, perhaps Israel's enemies from without or within, and their likelihood of achieving anything constructive: slime for mortar.

There's a Substacker, The Librarian of Celaeno, whose article about Fuentes several months ago I commend to you.

I believe The Librarian of Celaeno is actually a subscriber of mine.

Big fan of your substack. When I was in my late teens/early twenties I was a hell raiser and, looking back, maybe kind of a dick. I'm 40 now with 4 kids, good job, go to church etc etc. When I was coming up at his age we actually had a good country. I have a picture of my high school graduating class of 600 people, and there's like 10 non white people in it... one of them was a black guy who was a good friend of mine on the rugby team. They didn't/ don't have that now, and they're pissed off about it. So when you counter signal Dave Greene (one of the best guys we have), because he is sympathetic to Nick's concerns, I don't really find that helpful. Nick Fuentes is kind of a dick, but he's also still a kid. Yeah, he's in his late 20s but he didn't get to grow up like we did, so, yeah his stuff comes off as annoying. I don't follow his content and I don't necessarily agree with his takes, but I respect a young guy like that who has the discipline to succeed like he has. I'm not sure I could have done it in my early 20s

Max Remington's avatar

As I said before, I'm somewhat sympathetic to Fuentes' concerns as well. I even agree with him when he has something useful to say. The problem is he's useless for the most part. I don't know why this is difficult to grasp, but you can't treat all ideas and people as valid. If you have a screaming retard in your social circle, it's going to make hanging out an uncomfortable experience. It's perfectly legitimate to say "This guy shouldn't be part of our group."

I appreciate your readership.

The radical ideological capture of the left created this issue. Everyone I know even remotely sympathetic to Groyperism only started thinking that way as a reaction to the left going insane. I find it hilarious people are shocked that systematically demonizing a generation of young men didn’t turn them into pliant peons 🤡🌎
