France is worried it may not be France much longer if people are allowed to live in France without becoming French. In other words it would become like America, which is no longer American because this country stopped expecting immigrants (and even native blacks) to integrate into American society. I hope the French take decisive action because they can look to the US as a cautionary tale about what happens when a country loses its soul.
It depends on what you mean by "we're still here." I was born in the 1950s and have watched American culture vanish since then, so I don't think we are still here. The French know what third world colonization did to the US and they realize that failing to act will bring them the same fate. You often persuasively argue that civil war is something terrible to be avoided, but civil wars are fought to preserve a way of life. Failure to preserve that way of life does not avoid violence and bloodshed, it only dilutes and extends the misery over a period of years until the more barbarous side wins. The only alternative to war or prolonged decay is a political solution that accomplishes the preservation of a way of life without military action. For example the French could expel the people who threaten their culture. However the window for a political solution only lasts so long until demographic change closes it, as has happened in the United States.
If that's the case, then a civil war is still unlikely to produce the kind of change you're looking for. I'm still developing my "thesis," of sorts, but I think a revitalization of Americanism is very much possible this century. Will it look like American culture as you've known it? Not exactly, but we're not going back to the way we were, period. We need a crisis to spark this revitalization, but a crisis will eventually come.
I keep my assessments rooted in reality. Also, I find doomerism serves no purpose whatsoever. If we're really going to collapse, we may as well live like there's no tomorrow because there's no way to truly prepare for something like that.

Interesting - you seem to be saying it's the U.S., not France that's ahead in the timeline. I disagree, but that's an interesting take, nonetheless.
That said, I don't think it'd be the worst thing for France if they got to where we were. At least we're still here.

I fervently hope you are right. I read your posts because they offer a glimmer of optimism.

Most doomers are also selling something. Curious.
