The problem is that the ruling class is ok with civil terrorism coming from the left because the perpetrators are dependent on them. Seen from their view their actions are those of toddler throwing a temper tantrum in a store. The damage is someone else problem and the kid is just “acting” out. The ultimate solution to whatever the protest is about is more power to the ruling class.

"what use is democracy when you cannot even speak your mind freely?" When enough people ask that question, liberal democracy comes to an abrupt end.
"America is increasingly becoming a land of mini-ethnostates" Shockingly, even David Brooks suggested a few years ago that a return to federalism was the only way to manage this. (He, of course, didn't dare use ethnicity, preferring ideology as his divider, but the prescription is the same.)
Ideology is simply religious zealotry unrestrained by divine imperatives. That's what makes it dangerous: it repurposes the sacred/profane religious instinct and uses it for political ends.
Hey Max, what languages do you speak? You've made a few references to foreign news and entertainment.
Was the January 6 terrorist attack on the capital and attempt to overthrow an election included in this article about civil terrorism? Did I miss that? Or is it only civil terrorism when the people you hate do it?
My husband and I watched Adolescence last week. We always struggle to find something to watch on tv that both of us could potentially enjoy so we watch only about one or two series a month and otherwise read novels (I mainly read substack…). We both thought Adolescence was well acted, a bit slow, a bit too realistic in that it showed how boring life is, how stupid most people are, including the police and teachers - the show truly showed up teachers - but also how horrible most school children are and how we as a society have allowed them to be so bad. After all the girl was murdered because she was the type of little bit@ch that I remember from my own schooldays in the 1970s.
If the story had been set in a country that had all the social media, mobile phones, etc of 2025 but the same racial mix as Britain had in the 1950s it would have been realistic - bullied boy murdered nasty bully girl because she had seriously humiliated him in a very public, very 2025 way. So, the viewer has to pretend that Britain has 1950s levels of blacks and Muslims, (except a senior policeman is black, so there’s that…) but 2025 levels of social media. In other words, viewers have to suspend disbelief - as they nearly always have to when watching almost all drama - and forget that it’s mainly blacks that kill us, Muslims that rape us, etc. But remembering these facts whilst watching fiction interferes with the suspension of disbelief and therefore the ‘enjoyment’ of the drama.
My husband and son and my husband’s friend (a seventy three year old man) all thought Adolescent was great! They thought the young boy who played the murderer was a fantastic actor and the whole thing was well acted and well written and my son even discovered that the lead actor who played the father is quarter black! Of course he is. For my own part I keep quiet because the response from my husband and son are always negative if I mention any of the problems of portraying white boys in the way this drama did. They accuse me of spoiling it for them, of taking it too seriously…my son jokes that I am ‘far right’ (I am, proudly). My son is 37, and too old to be such a leftist, my husband just wants a quiet life, and he works too hard to be worried by any of this. I don’t want to spoil his enjoyment of yet another tv show - sometimes we just need to watch something and not have to think too hard. I think my husband would only ever watch sport on tv (and not much even of that) if he lived alone.
But the propaganda does disturb me - it is so skilfully done - they have had many, many years of practice, since the BBC was created by the government in the 1920s. If my husband, son and my husband’s friends are anything to go by, the propaganda absolutely works because most people go along to get along, as exposed by the lies of ‘Covid’. A huge percentage of people during that very dark time wore their stupidity on their faces, inside and out outside, alone in their cars…my husband and son took their poison jabs, I did not, they also wore masks, I didn’t, anywhere, not once. I do watch some tv, though, stuff like ‘Adolescence’, often bored with it but too tired to read. (Adolescence was boring on the whole - my husband fell asleep during one episode - lucky him).
The propaganda-ists do wear one down. It’s their job and they are extremely good at it. But maybe they are beginning to fail, I see through it, often enough, after all, - I saw through the covid lies from the start. Perhaps the covid lies woke up quite a few. The evil ones went too far, too fast, and it seems to me they are making the same mistake with all this flooding of our country with third world criminals and low iq useless eaters. Even the most gullible masked morons are beginning to shift a little bit in their comfy chairs over the evil faces of black murderers staring out from the front pages of The Sun and The Daily Mirror.
Marion, your comment made me think of a BBC show I enjoyed watching with my daughter: Father Brown Mysteries. In the BBC's update of Chesterton's character, they've set it in 1950. But one of the lead characters is a young black girl. While this is certainly possible in early 50's Britain (the British Overseas Nationality Act was passed in the very late 40's) it just feels weird to the rest of the show.
Idk, I dont know that we’re going to see much civil conflict. Maybe a bit, maybe a good bit in a short sharp window, but ultimately we’ll all be in an algorithm ghetto which will be the solution to dealing with it, and any civil conflict we once could have had will become impossible, to the point that we may find it would have been preferable. One group after another will be neutralized one way or another and the only course the vast majority of people will take is compliance, as the most dangerous game of prisoner’s dilemma in world history is played by all, and we all know we wont all cooperate to win the game, and you know what happens next.
Idk what will happen. Perhaps it will be worse than I expect and we’ll go Rwanda for a bit before this materializes. Perhaps something else will tip the scales — Campi Flegrei has been rumbling, as it does from time to time, so who knows? Perhaps the algorithm ghetto will be very very nice to those who consent to go along with it, making it even worse for those who do not. I am not sure.
Our society needs to stop elevating the voices of young people as if they have the wisdom to steer the future. It’s like handing the reins of a nation to toddlers. Why the left insists on dragging kids into politics instead of letting them simply be kids—I’ll never understand.
I know this firsthand. My mom tried to get me interested in politics before I even reached middle school, but of course, I lacked the maturity to grasp it fully. Now, high schoolers walk around burdened with the weight of the world because the adults who should be leading would rather offload that responsibility onto them. And instead of letting teenagers go through the natural process of making mistakes, we turn their growing pains into political talking points, distorting what should just be part of being human into yet another ideological battleground.
Great comment. I was born in 1972. At Uni, the professoriate complained we were the most politically apathetic generation in recent history. Looking back I wear it as a badge of pride.
And it's not just politics. A while back I was researching soil sequestration. I checked YouTube, because often it's possible to find sources which run contrary to the curation of Google and other browsers. I found an educational cartoon aimed at kids. It talked about soil sequestration, but then asked kids to design policies aimed at integrating the knowledge into 'traditional' farming practices in Africa. Education is actively teaching intellectual arrogance to the point of hubris- as though donning a white coat makes one a scientist, without the underlying attitude of intellectual scepticism paired with a thirst for falsifiable knowledge.
It's like the bullshit about 'climate' refugees. Sure, it happens anecdotally- but long before any significant effects were felt, young people were fleeing subsistence farming for the megacities. I don't blame them. Farm labouring is backbreaking work even if you're relatively young and have the aid of modern farming machinery in the West.
That's an interesting way of putting it. I personally see little harm in introducing kids to politics early. However, I do agree that politics is, ultimately, for the adults. Politics is boring. The only reason why it's become more "fun" is because literally every little thing has been politicized.
To be able to opine on politics, you need wisdom that only comes with life experience. I've always been a radical, and I've been on the Right for a long time, but I feel it's only in my late 30s that I've finally formulated a coherent worldview.
Everyone I know who was pushed into politics at a young age developed the belief that life should be fair—and that it’s their personal duty to enforce that fairness at any cost. Lacking the foresight to see the unintended consequences, they often justify extreme measures in the name of justice, unaware that forcing fairness often creates even greater injustice.
No one should dive into politics without first understanding both moral philosophy and how the world actually works—because without that foundation, they risk mistaking self-righteousness for wisdom. This is precisely why the left struggles with geopolitics; they approach it with ideological purity rather than a realistic grasp of power, history, and human nature.
On top of this, most people are highly insecure despite having access to everything, but our values are all wrong. Instead of developing personal resilience, they outsource their control issues to whoever is in office, expecting the president to validate their emotions and make them feel secure.
When reality doesn’t conform to their expectations, they don’t adapt—they unravel. Disillusioned and directionless, they become the modern-day prophets of doom, waving cardboard signs that say “The End is Nigh” with a wild, desperate look in their eyes.
And all of this could be avoided if studying classic philosophy were as common as binge-watching Netflix. We would have more well-adjusted adults and far less mental health issues.
Teach them gratitude, empiricism and the principle of falsification and everything else will follow. Thomas Sowell's four questions for Leftists are also an absolute must.
To be fair, a lot of that's because our social values are so liberal and progressive. If our social values were more traditional, our young people would reflect those values. Kids are reactionaries at heart. They're not the rebels they think they are. They conform to the prevailing social values of our time. Remember how "homophobic" kids used to be?
I agree that without a foundation of moral philosophy and life experience, politics is dangerous. At the same time, you can't escape politics, either. Especially in a hyper-politicized time like this. In some ways, the only way to prevent your kids from becoming radicalized is to build up their defenses by teaching them another way. I mentioned my German friend in my last essay - they've rejected German far-leftism and I can only assume it's because their parents educated them, instead of only relying on the school system to do so.
I agree with everything else you said. Our education system is actually anti-education. It doesn't prepare our kids to handle reality as it is. It instead prepares them to impose their own version of reality upon society - to become activists, effectively. If that's where our education funding has been going towards, I say defund education entirely.
I haven’t seen Adolescence and won’t, as my wife and I have cancelled Netflix again as we found there is absolutely nothing to watch other than the odd sports documentary.
The actions of the British elite are unsurprising and I see it as a retreat into fantasy in the face of unappetizing facts. It’s sort of like Law and Order, where most crimes in Manhattan are perpetrated by well spoken whites.
Something that comes up in British writing a fair amount is the Michaela schools. Basically this Indian principal came up with a strictly regimented school and manages to get the various antagonistic minorities to get along. One of the rules is that the cafeteria is vegetarian. I think this is what the elites have in mind as a form of social peace, basically a large miserable prison camp.
They think that young white males hate them because of propaganda, but in fact they hate them because the elite clearly doesn’t want the best for a young white heterosexual male at this point. Any interaction with government is an exercise in suppression and humiliation. Whole fields are closed off to them. I spent a fair amount of time in hospital a couple of years ago with a family member and there was only one young white male doctor, who appeared to be South African or British. And there is currently a piece in Compass magazine about how young white males can’t publish literary fiction any more. Who would support such a system?
Great programming? Please give some names. I have actually really enjoyed some Netflix shows over the years: The Last Kingdom, Doctor Foster, Broadchurch season 1, the F1 and Tour de France series, Dark, The Rain, High Seas… But eventually we always run out of things to watch and it all turns into a sludge. Endless murder mysteries, crime documentaries and reality shows.
I would love to find some good foreign series but I felt they were also bad. Spain/Spanish shows seem to end in some sort of BDSM or deviancy, French and British shows have the implausibly saintly Africans or Middle Easterners and tendentious lessons, and then everything in Scandinavia or Germany is filmed in grey.
I was very much struck by the Freedom Convoy and how a bunch of truckers were able to resist the police and camp out in minus 20 temperatures for three weeks. At this point the skills of white males are being intentionally suppressed, but I think the future is going yo be dire enough to make that impractical. And half of Generation Z seems pretty immune to government BS.
There's still great programming on Netflix, though I'm not sure it's anything you fancy. I find it interesting how you can see the values that each society values most when you watch their media. The French, Spanish, Italians, and Latin Americans value family and close social bonds most. The Germans value LGBTQ+ most. The Anglosphere values diversity most.
American public schools are often touted by liberals as examples of diversity success, but even there, you see racial self-segregation. People of different backgrounds don't naturally get along. It either takes cooperation on both ends, which is less common, or it takes accommodation/compromise, which is more common. If America demanded assimilation over integration, tensions would be so much greater.
For such a dangerous demographic, White males have been very easy pacify. Going back to the theme of entertainment's view of the world, White males are the one group that it's perfectly OK to depict getting absolutely mowed down. Asians and Hispanics are fair game too, as long as it's a martial arts movie for the former, cartels for the latter. Blacks are almost never depicted as criminals anymore. Anglosphere entertainment is full of "White gangs" in our urban areas. LOL
When White males start getting a fair shake, we'll have undergone a tremendous Overton shift. However, it's going to be an extremely difficult one to achieve.
"Let’s chat - what can be done about the problem of civil terrorism?"
The answer isn't fancy, and it's already in use in many countries within the West and beyond - though not always against the left. It's just a sense of impunity that you have to remove, so that leftists are more afraid of the response than they are of their own purity spiraling fanatics who push civil terrorism. Low-identity, externally-directed people need that in order to act. Meanwhile, allow truly peaceful protest so that this is encouraged instead - this is where the Europeans are about to shoot themselves in the head.
Harshly criminalize civil terrorism actions, including serious penalties for financiers and public figures/ platforms who encourage them. It's better if the penalties are very harsh and monetary at those upper levels. Leftists set Alex Jones as the precedent - now make them pay for it. Judges who cover for civil terrorists have their own links and finances formally investigated, and those who justify RICO charges (and some will, sloppy as we see them all to be these days) get them. Pursue those lines consistently and seriously, with no letup or apology, while leaving good-faith protest open and accessible.
Hard-tacks analysis says that this may not happen. Civil terrorism in the current environment does not help the left at all. Holding back on immediate full-scale lawfare against civil terrorism, and using its existence to build the will and methods required to destroy the liberal shadow-state, is probably good politics. I myself prefer the moral approach of just steamrolling civil terrorists from the get-go, but I am not naive about politics or about the possible need to shape the battlefield.
Your solution presumes the rule of law exists, which exists only in a cosmetic sense, but not in any meaningful sense. As long as the Civil Rights Act supersedes the Constitution, there's no way to address this within the existing legal framework.
The solution outside of a legal framework is war, death squads, and liquidation.
The solution within a legal framework is as described, and is being used by foreign countries against color revolutions, against rampant criminal disorder, and against European populations.
Do one, do the other, or lose and become the object of genocide. Reality doesn’t care.
