We still have a Constitution, our last line of defense against adverse and systemic changes.
Our challenge this time around in supporting needed revolutionary change is greater than defeating the British. Just need to expect the application of better methods for making systemic improvements and elect leaders that will represent the interests of all citizens and not just the few with a particular interest. The U.S. system is inherently unstable with its newfound demographics. Whether as a sham, a mere facade of democracy, or an outright break-up, this governmental system no longer has the confidence of those who would continue it.
Future elections, however this one goes, will be less and less meaningful as things are out of control or easily blocked both ways by brinkmanship. It might even go the way of Germany where one side will attempt to make the other illegal despite being 30%+ of the population. One's vote will matter less and less, one's personal security and immediate neighbors will matter more and more.
